MOFTA
Mid-Ohio
Firearms Training Academy
Formerly Known As "Concealed Carry Training Of Central Ohio" - cct-oco.com
MOFTA's classes were designed by our two Sr. Instructors with over
39 years of law enforcement experience, 30 years of firearms
training experience and 17-years of carrying a concealed handgun as
a private citizen. Our primary instructors are certified by the
National Rifle Association and/or the Ohio Peace Officer's Training
Commission. Our instructors have “Walked the Walk” and can “Talk
the Talk”, while keeping it interesting and educational. We
maintain a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment, with at least
two instructors presiding over all classroom and range sessions.
Our 2-Instructor policy gives our students the benefit of varying
perspectives on issues and questions. Our instructor staff includes
current and past law enforcement officers, professional educators
and private citizen shooters/instructors.
MOFTA provides 14-hours of classroom and 3+ hours of range time.
Our classroom time runs Monday through Thursday, 6:00 - 9:30 PM each
evening. We are off on Friday, and then we go to the range on
Saturday. You will be on the range for 4-hours during the day
on Saturday and will shoot between 150 and 200 rounds. Your
3+ hour range window will be assigned in class. Our classes are held in the
Northland area near the intersection of Morse Rd. and Indianola Ave.
at 4770 Indianola Ave. We utilize an outdoor range at the Big
Darby Creek Shooting Range in West Jefferson, Ohio at 875 Middle
Pike, approximately 20-minutes West of Downtown Columbus.
In
the classroom we do cover the basic fundamentals and safety of
handguns and ammunition. We discuss the meaning and importance of
“Concealed Carry”, we discuss the morale and legal issues of use of
lethal force and we discuss the “Defensive Mindset”. We extensively
review the Ohio Concealed Carry Law. We demonstrate the pros & cons
of most, if not all of, the common methods/styles of concealed
carry. We demonstrate and discuss the qualities of a personal
defense handgun. We mix “Hands On” handling of the handguns with
lectures and discussions during the classroom sessions to keep
student interest. Handling the handguns in class, we go over proper
sight picture and alignment, the commonly accepted grips and
shooting stances. We demonstrate and practice proper gun handling
and drawing techniques. We demonstrate and practice reloading
techniques and malfunction drills using plastic dummy ammunition
provided by MOFTA. We demonstrate and clarify the use of
concealment and use of cover, and we also demonstrate and discuss
“Low Light” shooting techniques. We finish our classroom sessions
off with a written exam, which requires a score of 70% to proceed to
the range sessions, and we demonstrate the proper cleaning and care
of your handgun.
On
the outdoor range you put your classroom experience to use. We
shoot rain or shine. So, dress accordingly. We start
out firing a 66 round practice “confidence building” course that is
not timed or scored. Then, we'll progress to the 72 round
“Qualification Course”. The qualification course is timed and
scored on a Pass/Fail basis for each of 8-stages. During the
practice course and the qualification course you will be on the
range, firing at distances from 21 feet down to 3 feet. In the
practice course you will draw from a non-concealed holster, and
during the qualification course you will draw from a concealed
holster. In the qualification course you fire at single and
multiple targets, you'll fire at targets from cover and in low light
conditions.
You
will have fun, and I guarantee everybody will learn something.
